Since 1996, St. John’s has been a place of welcome for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and their families, friends and allies. It was in that year that the congregation voted to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation.
Reconciling in Christ is a ministry of Reconciling Works, an organization working within the Lutheran communion, along with its ecumenical and global partners, to embody, inspire, and support the acceptance and full participation of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Reconciling Works is based on the belief that God values and embraces each person as a beloved child, that the Spirit gives a diversity of gifts for the common good, and that Jesus Christ calls us to work for justice. You may learn more about Reconciling Works at https://www.reconcilingworks.org.
Each year, St. John’s celebrates its commitment to welcome and acceptance during a worship service in early February.
